The reason for this change is the new role allotted to the county, with greater focus on the strategic management of development instead of its previous role characterised more by operative and administrative tasks.
Through the parliamentary system we wish to make visible and evident the political responsibility inherent in the management of Hedmark County.
The County Council, the Chairman of the County Council and committees
Hedmark County is politically governed by the County Council. Every 4 years the inhabitants elect a new County Council. The County Council is led by the President, who for the period of 2007 - 2011 is Mr Arnfinn Nergård.
The County Council is divided into three standing committees which are not empowered to make decisions, but prepare propositions and reports for the County Council.
There is also a control committee which has responsibilities both pursuant to legal requirements and with respect to following up the work of the County Executive Board.
